My Principles / Why I Am Running

As the Republican Salt Lake County Council nominee for District 5, it is important for me to share my principles and priorities.

Serving as a Riverton City Council member and Mayor Pro Tem, I learned first-hand the importance of recognizing and serving all members of the community. Transparency and accountability are critical at every level of government, but especially at the County level. You deserve to have your voice heard and you deserve to have a representative who fights for your best interests – and that is what I have vowed to do.

The Importance of Salt Lake County Council

From city councils to the highest elected offices in the land, all levels of government are important. For day-to-day matters that affect us most profoundly, however, local government plays a critical role. Decisions made at the Salt Lake County Council level affect everything from election integrity to your personal budget and standard of living.

In addition to the importance of the Council overall, I intend to emphasize the importance of Salt Lake County Council District 5. The citizens of District 5 are equally deserving of attention and service – and I will ensure that their voices are truly heard and heeded.

Budget Control & Transparency

There is no question that our County budget has ballooned out of control – increasing to more than double in size. We must get excessive spending under control and hold those who are at fault accountable.

I intend to bring both transparency and accountability to budgeting and spending.

I also intend to take an innovative, fiscally conservative approach to reducing spending. One way to accomplish this is to explore the potential for public/private partnerships. There are, frankly, many areas where private enterprise can accomplish more for less, and I will seek out and introduce these opportunities to help us achieve our goals.

Meeting the Salt Lake County Community’s Needs

Our richly diverse and beautiful community deserves to have its needs recognized and addressed. In addition to getting budget matters under control, I intend to address a number of critical issues in our county.

Among those needs, transportation deserves our immediate attention. We need to see improvements in east-west connectivity. We also need safe, adequate parking around our schools. I also intend to focus on the need for functional, well-maintained recreational facilities in our community as well as the need for a greater focus on mental health issues.
